Established in 1999 under the aegis of Shri Banarsidas Chandiwala Sewa Smarak Trust Society, a charitable Society working in the field of Health & Education since 1952, with a view to provide quality education. BCIHMCT, New Delhi is a young and progressive Hotel Management Institute and prominent among Best Hotel Management Colleges in the country, created a niche for itself as a source of competent managerial and technical manpower for the hotel industry. The faculty and the students – share the vision and mission of the Institute and are active partners in its implementation. The Institute is Accredited by NAAC, an autonomous body under UGC, as Quality Institution and also Assessed and Registered against the provisions of ISO 9001:2008 International Standard.

BCIHMCT, New Delhi was the First Hotel Management Institute established under Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi awarding a four-year degree in Hotel Management & Catering Technology and is approved by AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education) Ministry of HRD, Government of India. BCIHMCT is graded as an A+ Category Institute by Delhi Govt and GGSIP University, Delhi.

The ‘Process Management Approach’ followed by the institute facilitates in effective implementation of each process and it’s monitoring. Both the stakeholders – the faculty and the students – share the vision and mission of the Institute and are active partners in its implementation.

Padagogy

Dedicated and research oriented faculty implements teaching-learning process at BCIHMCT through rigorous planning and keeping in view the industry needs. Students undergo classroom lectures, tutorials, case studies, assignments, seminars, workshops, multimedia presentations, and lectures from guest speakers from the industry and academia. To develop integrated knowledge of programming, students visit hotels for industrial exposure & are exposed to research projects on the topics related to syllabus, latest trends in technology. Students regularly participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Faculty

Well qualified, permanent & dedicated academic team with hospitality background at BCIHMCT consists of core and visiting/ guest faculty from the industry, usefully supplemented by regular practical inputs applicable in the Hospitality Industry. Besides the basic course material students are trained in communication skills, creative thinking and problem solving techniques while grooming them for better social interaction among themselves and the world outside. BCIHMCT ensure that our students have easy accessibility to faculty guidance, firm assurance of staff support and a very caring and nurturing environment. All these lead to effective realization of our objectives and goals.

Mentoring System

Institute has in place an effective mentoring system through which student’s performance and difficulties are assessed at academic and personal level. Each student’s performance record is being maintained and he/she is counselled for excellence in the areas. Faculty members are assigned as mentor to respective groups. Students are encouraged to meet with their mentor and freely discuss their problems and suggestions. The mentor ensures complete confidentiality of the identity of students. Common issues raised by the students are discussed in faculty meetings.

Student Feedback System

To remain student centric and to measure student satisfaction level, student feedback mechanism is implemented, in structured and unstructured manner. At the end of each semester, the students fill up a structured feedback questionnaire related to the effectiveness of faculty in the implementing teaching-learning process. The identity of student is optional. The data so received is analysed and Faculty Effectiveness Index is calculated and shared with each faculty. Faculty development inputs are gathered from student feedback. Student feedback is also received by the Director through interactive session with each class and during the Student Council meetings.

Working Hours

The institute opens on five days in a week from Monday to Friday from 9:00 A.M to 5:00 P.M. The Institute follows AICTE mandated 40 hours per week and 90 days teaching per semester.

The Institute offering four-years Bachelor Degree in Hotel Management and Catering Technology Programme.

Approval & Affiliation

Banarsidas Chandiwala Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology runs Four Years BHMCT programme as designed by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University – the affiliating University. The norms and standards for the delivery of the course – as laid down by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of HRD, and Government of India and the affiliating University – are followed at the institute. The BHMCT programme is divided into eight semesters each of five months duration.

Pedagogy

The aim of the Institute is to develop it as a centre of excellence in hospitality education, training its students to use multiple approaches to comprehend the nature of the hotel business and learn to work in cohesive manner in a team for achieving the objective of the industry.

The students are trained to use various approaches to analyse the industry and the competition in depth. They are groomed to industry norms. Different methods of teaching have been adopted for training such as case studies, lectures, seminars, group discussions, presentations, role playing etc and we prepare them as managers with path finding qualities and help them to become go-getters with objective decision making capabilities.

From the very first semester, students are sent for in-house training at the guesthouse and restaurant complex of the Trust Society to have the basic idea of operations in hotels.

The professional teaching methodology comprises of study through presentations made with LCD Projector and other training aids. Apart from class lectures, students have the facility to download study material from computers which enables faculty to interact with them to ensure better time management.

Intake and Reservation Policy of Seats

AICTE approved intake for the programme is 120. 85% seats are reserved for Delhi candidates and 15% for outside Delhi candidates.

Reservation

Reservation for specific categories shall be as per the guidelines of Government of NCT of Delhi.

Banarasidas Chandiwala Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility for the admission to 4 years BHMCT programme as stipulated by GGSIP University requires:

  • Pass in 12th Class of 10+2 of CBSE or equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and must also have passed English (core or elective or functional) as a subject.
    Admission Procedure

The admissions are carried out strictly on merit basis through a Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. The University conducts central counselling for the college affiliated with it.

Commencement of Academic Session

  • Odd Semesters: Odd semesters commence on 1 August of every academic year and the end-term examinations are held in the month of December.
  • Even Semesters: Even semesters commence in the month of January of every academic year and the end-term examinations are held in the month of May -June.
    Examination & Evaluation Procedure

Examinations are a method to judge the level of understanding of the subjects that have been taught to students at the Institute. The 4 year period is divided into 8 semesters.

The Examinations are divided into two:

  • Internal Examinations
  • External Examinations

The examination and evaluation is carried out according to the scheme laid down by GGSIP University. Every paper (for theory and practical) is of 100 marks. In every paper students are evaluated through an end term semester examination conducted by the university and through internal / continuous evaluation by the institute. The internal evaluation is conducted on the basis of written tests, presentations, assignments, seminars, projects, etc.
