Vastu Kala Academy about-

Vastu Kala Academy was established in 1993 by the Institute for Socialist Education, a society registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. It offers a five year (ten semesters) full time Undergraduate Programme in Architecture.

The Academy is located in the Qutub Institutional Area in the close vicinity of prestigious institutes like I.I.T., J.N.U., National Institute of Health Education, National Institute of Immunology, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, etc. It is well connected by public transport from all sides.

Vastu Kala Academy Course

B.Arch. (Full Time 5 year Degree Course)

The college conducts a five year B.Arch. degree course duly approved by the Council of Architecture. The curriculum is structured as a five year, two staged programme.
The first stage consists of three years full time study, followed by practical training in a professional office or at a construction site.

The second stage consists of full time study of two years and includes writing of a research dissertation, participation in seminars, presentation of Design Thesis, etc. and in the seventh semester the students undergo a 24 week practical training in approved architectural offices/firms which helps them gain practical knowledge. It also helps them bridge the gap between theoretical and practical approaches in handling a project and know the process of development, impact of culture and architectural expression. The students also get to understand latest construction techniques and methodologies.

Academic Evaluation and Award of Certificates

The evaluation is done on the basis of monthly assignments and projects given to the students in order to maintain high standards. Degree Certificates are awarded on completion of the course.

In addition to the above mentioned fees, the college will charge additional amount for students’ activities and other developmental charges.

Examination Fee to be paid by Demand Draft at the time of Examination.

The Fees, if increased in the future, shall be applicable to all the students of the B. Arch. Programme .
Only if, the written request is received on or before the 2nd counseling up to 5.00 p.m., the admission will be cancelled and the candidate’s fee will be refunded after deduction of processing fee of Rs. 10,000/-.

Eligibility

Candidate must possess 50% marks in aggregate at 10+2 level or equivalent examination with Mathematics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level.

or

10+3 years Diploma recognized by the Central / State Governments with 50% aggregates marks.

or

International Baccalaureate Diploma, after 10 years of schooling, with not less than 50% marks in aggregate and with Mathematics as compulsory subject of examination.

All candidates possessing any of the above qualifications and seeking admission to B. Arch. Programme must have a valid NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) score of 50%.

There will be no entrance test for admission to B.Arch Programme. Admission will be made on the basis of NATA Scores and the percentage of marks obtained in the qualifying examination, i.e. Senior Secondary level or equivalent exams.

Merit List shall be prepared on the basis of:
(i) Architectural Aptitude (NATA Score) : 50%
(ii) Qualifying Examination (10+2 or 10+3) : 50%

Admission Procedure:

The application forms, complete in all respects, should be submitted to GGSIP University.
Documents (one set) required at the time of submission of application forms.

b. 10+2 Mark sheet and Certificate of qualifying exam. (Attested Photocopy)

Note: Without the above two documents the forms will be rejected.

Interior Designing (One Year Part Time Diploma Course)

Interior Design as a profession is relatively new. It is a field which is hard to separate from the field of architecture. Interior Designers have not only to observe taste trends and style evolution in the socio cultural context, but have also to understand and interpret customer’s needs and expectations, acquainting themselves with the problems concerning implementation of a design project which does not limit creativity and freedom of expression.

These skills are developed through deep sensitivity towards interior designing and a multi-disciplinary approach. Spatial inter-relationship is given due importance. The skill to organize space contributes to the improvement of environment.

New technologies and material resources are affecting our life style and mindset and changing them. That is why the Architectural and Design scenario has to be re-invented today.

The purpose of our educative programme is to impart knowledge relevant to our conditions and traditions.
The short term course will be a simple, educative and helpful to individuals who are interested in Interior Designing as a meaningful profession.

Objectives of a short term course :

To impart practical training in the field of Interior Designing leading to imagination and creativity.

To impart knowledge relevant to our conditions and traditions, to cope up with challenges of development process in the post globalization era.

Interior Design professionals who design interior spaces, residential homes, shops, banks, hotels, offices etc. and meet demands of rapid development are the need of the hour. Most of the professionals are being hired from other countries in the wake of shortage of such consultants. The objective of this course is to train professionals to be able to help, support and cope up with growing challenges and not to rely on foreign consultants.

These professionals can become high profile complementary figures in important design organizations or develop their own professional studios.

Brief Course Outline :

a. Theory and Design of Basic Skills

Fundamental vocabulary and understanding concepts of composition, harmony, balance, rhythm, proportions etc. in historical and modern perspective.

b. Technical Representation Drawing

  • Introduction to drafting tools and drawing medium
  • Lettering
  • Object drawings and techniques of rendering
  • Orthographic view sketching
  • Colour, colour schemes, and its impact on human psychology

c. Design

The fundamental principles of design applied to planning of residential, public and commercial spaces.

d. Basic Services

  • Introduction to technologies
  • climate & environmental control
  • sanitation & water supply
  • electrical systems

e. History of Interiors

History of Interiors through ages, historical styles, patterns Indian context, Guptas, Mauryas,
Rajputs, Marathas, Deccan world context, post-Industrial Revolution, modern movements, etc.

f. Building Construction

Introduction to materials and construction techniques of Interior elements. Study the available modern construction materials and techniques and critically examine their properties and their use to suit a particular situation. The aim is to combine basic technical knowledge of materials with creative use of building skills and construction techniques with emphasis on traditional materials, method of construction and new technologies. Modern materials and their uses would be learnt selectively.

g. Furniture Introduction to basic understanding of furniture type, systems and criteria for selection and role of fabrics in Interiors.

h. Lighting in Interior

Study the lighting designs and planning criteria for lighting systems in interiors.

i. Art Objects

The role of art and craft objects in Interiors.

j. Computer aided drawings

introduction to computer fundamentals. 2D and 3D drafting.

Duration of the course :

48 weeks (two semesters of 24 weeks each)

Three hours thrice a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday
5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Admission Eligibility:

Applicants who have passed 10+2 will be eligible to seek admission.
